Microdermabrasion is a skin-freshening technique that’s right for all skin types! It’s a procedure than can easily be made part of your basic skincare routine for best results. It’s used for both treatment and maintenance, so it’s part of most comprehensive skincare plans.
Microdermabrasion helps repair facial skin that takes a beating from the sun and the effects of aging. It is effective in reducing fine lines, “crow’s feet,” age spots and mild acne scars. It helps reduce the recurrence of acne. It also stimulates the production of collagen in the skin.
Microdermabrasion can be used nearly anywhere on the body. The face and neck are obvious choices, but microdermabrasion can also renew the chest (decolletage), hands, arms and back.
We have two different types of microdermabrasion in our Skin Renewal Center: crytal and non-crystal. The crystal treatment uses a device like a fine sandblaster to spray tiny crystals across the face, mixing gentle abrasion with suction to remove the dead, outer layer of skin. The non-crystal device uses a tip like a fine piece of sandpaper to accomplish the same results. Both techniques are effective. Some people just prefer one over the other for personal reasons.
Each treatment takes from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the areas being treated. Your skin will first be cleansed and toned, then the microdermabrasion tip will be passed over your skin until all areas have been treated. It is often said that the procedure feels like a cat is licking the skin. It’s a very comfortable procedure with no downtime and no need for any anesthesia.
There are virtually no side effects. It’s a nonsurgical, safe, effective “lunch hour” procedure that gives the skin an overall fresh, healthy-looking glow.
The number of treatments recommended for maximal results can range between 5 and 12, spaced 2 to 3 weeks apart. Maintenance of results requires periodic repeat treatments (generally monthly) after the initial regimen is completed.
Microdermabrasion may be combined with a light chemical peel to increase the effect. It should always be used in combination with a comprehensive skin care regimen. See our Skin Care page for more details about our professional skincare lines.
