First, what is FotoFacial RF™?
FotoFacial RF™ treatments can be used on the full face, neck, hands or body. The technology includes Intense Pulsed Light and RadioFrequency energy combined in the same pulse, meaning you get one treatment with both technologies. These gentle, no-downtime treatments are used to improve the cosmetic appearance of the face, neck or body. What kind of results can I expect from FotoFacial RF™?
You will notice a consistent improvement in the appearance of your skin over the course of your treatment sessions. The degree of improvement is gradual and persistent over the 15-18 week program and 5-6 FotoFacial RF™ treatments. (You can expect to have treatments every 3-4 weeks for a total of 5-6 sessions.) You can expect to have improvement in pink and brown discoloration, spider veins, pink and brown blemishes, sun damage, age spots, pore size, acne scarring and wrinkles. How does the FotoFacial RF™ differ from other photorejuvenation procedures?
The FotoFacial RF™ combines Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and RadioFrequency (RF) energy into one treatment. Many other lasers and devices, such as N-lite®, Cooltouch®, SmoothBeam®, V-Beam®, IPL photorejuvenation or Intense Pulsed Light systems with the Quantum® or Vasculight® can provide basic photorejuvenation, after which you may a degree of improvement in the appearance of some aspects of your skin. However, by combining RadioFrequency and Intense Pulsed Light into one FotoFacial RF™ treatment, you will achieve the optimal degree of enhancement to all components of your skin. You can expect no-downtime wrinkle improvements as well as significant improvement in redness, rosacea, pinkness, spider veins, pores and texture.
Does the treatment hurt?
The sensation is often described as a "hot pinch" or "snapping" feeling. The sensation only lasts a fraction of a second, and you may feel warmth or a tingling sensation for a short time afterward. Most people tolerate the treatment without topical anesthetic. We also utilize a cooling device during treatments to help cool the area.
What happens after each treatment?
Temporary pinkness in the skin lasts a very short time, and most people return to work or normal activities immediately after treatment. (You can reapply your make-up immediately following treatment.) The improvement in pigmented and vascular irregularities can often be appreciated by the time you return for your next treatment 3-4 weeks later. Pigmented areas temporarily turn darker before they lighten.
Now, what is Refirme™ Skin Tightening and Matrix IR™ Fractional Resurfacing?”?
The combination of these two treatments has sometimes been called a "nonsurgical facelift"--a term Dr. Kavali uses very loosely, as no non-surgical treatment can truly produce surgical results. However, Refirme™ Skin Tightening and Matrix IR™ Fractional Resurfacing do produce a dramatic effect on facial skin, including tightening and lifting. They use bipolar radiofrequency (RF) and optical energy (IR--for Refirme) or diode laser (for Polaris) to achieve their effects.
These are office procedures, often done at the same time as FotoFacial RF™. You can apply makeup immediately following the procedure, which should take about 45 minutes. You will see some redness and may have some mild facial swelling for a day or so after the treatment. You will see an immediate effect on the tightness of your skin! Again, a series of treatments is strongly recommended, generally 5-6 treatments about 3-4 weeks apart. Maintenance treatments are recommended 3-4 times yearly to keep your skin looking fresh and firm.
